Agnes Kofoed Christianson is a vocalist, composer, director, performance artist and activist. Based in Sweden, she creates interdisciplinary projects and fosters intercultural artistic collaborations both within Sweden and internationally with artistic collaborations in Egypt since 2017.
In her work, she blends and connects various art forms, constantly exploring the immediate and direct communication between performers and audience, the interaction and belong of experimental music and theatrical expression and continously exploring artistic resistance as a way of real change. Composing own solo works, own ensembles within contemporary art music, free improvisations and Arabic music, orchestra, chamber opera, chamber ensembles and solo works. She continously works in artistic collaborations with musicians, directors, choreographers, costume designers, dancers and actors.
As a vocalist she is singing traditional Arabic music with mentors in Cairo, Paris, Copenhagen and works experimentally as voice artists. Vocalist in performative and improvisational works, opera, microtonal and traditional Arabic music projects, vocal ensembles and music theater.
She holds a master’s degree in composition from the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg and educated vocalist and performer at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen.
Her master’s thesis, Composing Movement(s): On Physical Performativity and Artistic Violence in Contemporary Art Music, delved into the concept of artistic resistance through performed music, combining performance and choreography, exploring music as physical movement and expanding the visual experience of music.
